He was born in 1955 in Požarevac. Enrolled and completed medical studies at the University of Belgrade in 1979. In 1980, he started working in the surgical department of the Požarevac Hospital. He has been a specialist in general surgery since 1986, which he completed at the First Surgical Clinic of the University in Belgrade. Since the beginning of his work, his main interest has been abdominal surgery, especially hernia surgery. During his specialization, he is interested in digestive surgery, so, as part of his internship, he stays in Skopje with Prof. Koce Serafimova and Zemun at Prim. Ljubomir Kostić in order to perfect the technique of supraselective vagotomy. As a specialist, he participated in the team for the first pylorus-preserving pancreatectomy in Yugoslavia, performed in Požarevac in 1986. Along with abdominal surgery, he is dedicated to abdominal wall hernia surgery. A special place is occupied by the introduction of biomaterials into standard use, especially in incisional hernias, starting in 1984. He is the co-author of the first and only book on hernia surgery in Yugoslavia, which was published in 1988, as a result of intensive cooperation with world authorities in this field. In the period up to 1990, he introduced the first operations according to Stoppa, Rives and Lichtenstein, which today are the basis of modern classical hernia surgery. At the beginning of the nineties, he became involved in the development of laparoscopic surgery, and in 1992 he completed a course in Hong Kong and began laparoscopic surgery in the same year. He is a founding member of the Yugoslav Association for Laparoscopic Surgery. As an instructor, he participated in the training of surgeons in 11 hospitals in Serbia with over 1,000 instructor operations performed. He performed the first laparoscopic operation for inguinal hernia in Serbia in 1995, and then introduced into the regular program laparoscopic operations for incisional and gastric hernias as well as other operations from the field of abdominal surgery. He is improving in Munich with Prof. Sivert, Amiens with Prof. Stoppa, Brussels with Cadier. He is the organizer and host of the international congress on the occasion of 15 years of laparoscopic surgery in Serbia. In 2001, together with a group of enthusiasts, he founded the Association of Herniologists of Serbia, of which he is the current president. Since 2004, he has been a founding member of the IEHS (International Association for Laparoscopic Hernia Surgery), and in 2012 he organized the congress of this association in Belgrade. He is the editor of the good practice guide for inguinal hernia surgery issued by the Ministry of Health of Serbia. The current activity is the introduction of the eTEP endoscopic procedure into regular use in incisional hernia operations.
